Intro:
In this project, we were given the assignment to create a way to fix a world problem using biotechnology. This project consisted of seven stages and we were given eighteen days to complete the task. My group decided to focus on deforestation, specifically in Brazil. Soybeans account for 60% of forest loss in Latin America and roughly 40% worldwide.

Concepts:
Biotechnology: the exploitation of biological processes for industrial and other purposes
GMO: is an organism whose genome has been altered by the techniques of genetic engineering so that its DNA contains one or more genes not normally found there.
Our soybeans were genetically modified to grow larger.
Deforestation: The action of clearing a wide area of trees for a specific reason, sometimes for land or resources
Our group created a solution for this issue.
IAglu: The first gene for controlling the growth hormone to be cloned from a plant
IAglu was the gene we manipulated to create a larger plant.
Particle Bombardment: a direct physical method of introducing nucleic acids into cells
We used this technique to change our gene.

Reflection:
In this project I've learned a lot about how group dynamics must be in order to have success. I believe I also took more of a leadership role in this project. I feel that some of my peaks were I was able to work on and improve my leadership skills as well as communicate my thoughts more clearly to my fellow group members. This project helped me create a better understanding of genetic engineering techniques and GMOs. Some of the pits of this project were we had to restart after a letter our from mentor and we tended to get off task when we finished a certain aspect of the project. In the future, I plan to initiate more complex thinking into the projects I work on and make sure everyone's ideas and heard in the group. Some peaks of this project were we learned more about genetic engineering and its' complexity as well as the effects of a certain gene on a specific organism. With this knowledge I believe we can use these ideas for real life application to solve the world's problems.
